Obama Turns His Back On US!

Sent to Obama, Pelosi, Bishop, Reid, Gillibrand, Schumer  May 24, 2010

The May Day parades and the Address to Congress by Mexican President Felipe Calderone was a disgrace.  To make matters beyond worse, the Democrats in Congress applauded Calderone when he attacked Arizona's law.

He, like Holder and Nepolitano, probably didn't read the law.

"We're Watching" Post Card

This 4" x 6" post card was sent to Obama, Pelosi, Bishop, Reid, Gillibrand and Schumer:

Quincy, Illinois Tea Party Unease

 May 1, 2010
Letter to Illinois US Congressional Representatives and Senators and Quincy City Officials:

Swat Team Confronts Peaceful Citizens Expressing Their Opinions – Quincy, Illinois, April 29, 2010

You folks really have to pay closer attention to what’s going on in the United States.

Calling out the swat team was a bad idea.  They weren’t dealing with a mob as some in Congress have misguidedly stated.  The Tea Party movement isn’t the SDS.  These folks are law-abiding taxpayers who are exercising their First Amendment rights.  They’re veterans, grandparents and younger people who believe in expressing their opinions as guaranteed by the Constitution.

I’ve been to DC and New York events and haven't seen one unlawful incident.  We’ve expressed our appreciation to the police, followed their directions and thanked them for their protection and service – we even cleaned up after ourselves.

The City of Quincy, State of Illinois and the Nation have nothing to fear from us — just keep telling the truth and honoring your oath to uphold the Constitution.

Arizona Illegal Immigrant Law

April 28, 2010
Sent to Obama, Pelosi, Bishop, Reid, Schumer, Gillibrand. Holder, Napolitano

The Killing of Robert Krentz and a Responsible Reaction

There comes a time when a man must stand and defend his family, property and way of life.  When the federal government or local law enforcement is unwilling or unable to protect its citizens from invaders and enforce the laws of the land, we citizens are left with few choices – it's either fight or die.

The murder of Arizona rancher, Robert Krentz, on March 27, 2010 by an alleged criminal who crossed an unguarded border from Mexico occurred after ample alarm had been given by the people of Arizona.  His death, which falls under President Obama's watch, seems to have been ignored by the administration – except for criticism against citizens seeking to defend themselves.

It is my opinion that Janet Napolitano and Barack Obama are guilty of neglect.  They are guilty of failing to protect US citizens and visitors from organized criminal activity, foreign gangs, robbery, property destruction, drug smuggling, kidnappings, human trafficking and home invasions from people who illegally crossed the border from Mexico.

We've traveled frequently to Arizona and plan to return in May or June.  We started traveling the United States 11 years ago and haven't felt the threats that the citizens in Arizona have.  Our decision to travel unarmed was made in the confidence of God's protection as told about in the Book of Ezra in the Bible.  The Israelites had to travel approximately 800 miles across hostile territory with close to 30 tons of silver and gold.  Ezra led the people safely without the protection of King Artaxerxes.  The text of Ezra's confidence gave us confidence in God's protection:
Ezra said, " I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.”    Ezra 8:22

Mexican President Felipe Calderon criticized the Arizona law and charged that it will lead to "intolerance, hate discrimination and abuse in law enforcement."  Mexican lawmakers are calling for economic boycotts against Arizona.  Conspicuously absent is an expression of concern for Mr. Krents's family.  Come to think of it, I haven't read of my president – the one who travels the world apologizing for America – apologizing to the Krentz family for his lapse of security measures that could have prevented Mr. Krentz's assassination

I read the entire Arizona Senate Bill 1070 and am puzzled by the "police state" reaction – the reaction is obviously from people who haven't taken the time to read it.  About 2 pages deal with cooperation with and enforcement of federal laws.  Approximately 3 pages refer to trespassing, smuggling and unlawful stopping of vehicles, unlawful work and illegal transportation of illegal aliens.  Employer regulations cover half the document at 8 pages.  Almost 3 pages cover employment eligibility and vehicle seizure.  These are the same laws that would be applicable in any US state.

I also read Michelle Malkin's, "How Mexico Treats Its Illegal Aliens" at:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/uc/20100428/cm_uc_crmmax/op_1913861
If we subject Mexicans to the same laws that the Mexican government does to its visitors, we'd be accused of being a police state – and rightly so.

Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl asked for 3,000 troops at the border to keep our citizens safe.  I suggest that we transfer the money for the additional17,000 IRS agents – who will police our citizens to comply with the government-mandated health program – to police the border with Mexico.

Our president foolishly jumped into the fray and glibly asserted that a parent and child seeking ice cream could be pounced upon by a zealous police officer demanding to see their papers.  That sounds like the same gut-level reaction that led to the beer summit – another stroke of genius.

Eric Holder calls the Arizona law "an unfortunate one."  He also said, "… I'm very concerned about the wedge that it could draw between communities that law enforcement is supposed to serve and those of us in law enforcement."  Sadly, the thugs who menaced voters in Philadelphia and the union thugs who beat Kenneth Gladney weren't dealt with and are still protected by Holder and Obama.

Rather than criticizing the efforts made by the law-abiding citizens of Arizona, our federal government needs to dig in and clean up the immigration mess and protect Robert Krentz's family and friends.  We don't need the internment camps that Liberals Wilson and Roosevelt inflicted upon our country – we need committed, compassionate and adult wisdom from our elected officials.

Value Added Tax and Imflammatory Speech

April 24, 2010

Sent to Obama, Pelosi, Bishop, Reid, Schumer, Gillibrand, Holder

Value Added Tax

Halloween images are appropriate for what you're doing to the American public with your unrestrained spending and taxing.  Like the vampire, you seem to be addicted to sucking the blood of our lives through taxes.  Because of you, our children and grand children will be denied the same prosperity that we enjoy.

You've lost touch!  Obama, Reid and Pelosi are millionaires.  Your salaries are way beyond the average American – Obama, $374,460; Reid. $193,400; Pelosi, $223,500; Bishop, Gillibrand and Schumer, $174,000 each.  Your lifetime pensions are more generous than most of the people who pay your salaries.

Now you're floating the idea of a Value Added Tax.  That would be a disaster.
The advertisement below is from Dick's Sporting Goods.

Now that may not be a lot to you fat-cat Washington politicians with your exorbitant salaries, outlandish perquisites and retirement benefits but it sure is a lot to a parent struggling to keep the kids clothed and fed.

I wonder why you would trade the opportunities that we have for the subsistence levels of the socialist countries where the common man is reduced to depending on government handouts.  America was built on and defended free-market principles where a person with an idea and hard work could make a fortune.

Inflammatory Speech

Bertha Lewis, CEO of Acorn – a close ally of candidate Barack Obama – said, at the Winter Conference of the Young Democratic Socialists on March 25, 2010, "We are living in a time which is going to dwarf … the internment during World War II … the era of Jim Crow and segregation … They are coming and they are coming after you and they are going to be brutal and oppressive."  http://biggovernment.com/amarcus/2010/04/22/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-recent-bertha-lewis-acorn-rant/

Maybe you should tell Bertha Lewis that Presidents Wilson and Roosevelt, two Democrats, interned innocent Americans.  Maybe you should tell her that it was Southern Democrats who fought to protect segregation and Jim Crow laws.  Tell her that Senator McCarthy was censured by the Senate in 1954 at the instigation of Republicans, not Democrats.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_McCarthy#Censure_and_the_Watkins_Committee

"President Woodrow Wilson imprisoned over 100,000 Americans during World War I who were deemed political opponents or pacifists."  http://www.americanfreepress.net/html/camps_for_dissidents_190.html

"By presidential directive, 120,000 Japanese residents, 80,000 of whom were American citizens by birth, were taken from their homes, farms and businesses and interned at relocation sites far inland. Roosevelt showed little remorse." http://campaigningforhistory.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/woodrow-wilson/

It seems that your political tribe, from Barack to Bertha with the rest of you in the middle, are pandering to your base and the only reason that I can think of is that you are fearful of Americans who reject the socialist leanings of this administration.  The violent rhetoric comes mainly from the Democratic party and is aimed at its base:

Ø the base that responds to Ron Bloom who said, "We kind of agree with Mao that political power comes largely from the barrel of a gun."; http://freedomeden.blogspot.com/2009/10/ron-bloom-mao-and-free-market-nonsense.html
Ø the base that responds to Barack Obama who said, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” ; http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2482761/posts
Ø the base that thrives on violence and beats an honor student to death with a 2x4 on a Chicago street; http://cbs2chicago.com/local/derrion.albert.investigation.2.1212436.html
Ø the base that influences the Justice Department to drop charges against thugs menacing voters in Philadelphia;  http://thebulletin.us/articles/2009/05/29/top_stories/doc4a1f42b32c161287079901.txt
Ø the base that tolerates the beating of Kenneth Gladney by SEIU thugs and the silencing of Gladney's First Amendment Rights.
http://biggovernment.com/jhoft/2009/11/29/gladney-beating-interview-with-harris-himes-the-minister-who-witnessed-seiu-violence/

While "campaign" and "lock and load" may be military terms, they are also political terms that refer to great contests.  That's quite different from the issues above.

It's amusing to hear you people refer to older and peaceful citizens who gather and let their opinions be known as "Astroturf" and "mob".  Where is the respect of the First Amendment and its prohibition of government against limiting speech and freedom of assembly?  Where is the "integrity, civility and fiscal discipline" promised by Nancy Pelosi in her "A New Direction for America"?

If you ask me – and I know that you would rather dwell in an ivory tower where your subjects fawn over you than hear my humble opinions – the taxpaying citizens of these United States don't want the     *     tax burdens that you're foisting upon us.  We don't need or want bigger government to take care of us – maybe those without "skin in the game" want your largess but we don't!

There's time to turn this mess around and I urge you to do so before your goons come for me to drag me to the internment camp – you Democrats have a track record of deceiving and imprisoning innocent people and the American taxpayer is going to continue to search for and reveal the truth.

*(ask Rham or Joe for an appropriate expletive)

April 10, 2010

Sent to Obama, Pelosi, Bishop, Reid, Gillibrand, Schumer

I'm in the middle of that annoying time of year – income-tax preparation – and am seething over the news that 47% in our country will pay no federal income taxes.1  They will get credits that were designed to lift them out of poverty thanks to a program enacted by Congress in 1975.2  Can you tell me if that is working?

We're creating a welfare state that is poised to consume more than it is capable of producing.  Millions are unemployed and yet your political tribe spent more than a year jamming a health care program down our throats rather than working on the economy.  It doesn't take a genius to know that potential employers aren't going to hire workers until there's evidence that an entrepreneur can have a chance of making a profit for his or her investment in time and money. The professors or career politicians seem incapable of understanding that basic concept.

It's discouraging to learn – "after the package was unwrapped", as Nancy Pelosi said – that there are provisions that will bankrupt our country and enslave future generations.  One provision seems to have exempted members of Congress (and their staff) from the same coverage that everyone will be compelled to purchase.

S.E.C. chairwoman, Mary L. Shapiro, speaking about financial reform bills, said that financial companies needed to "keep skin in the game."3   It seems to me that neither Congress nor the 47% have the motivation to keep the game in action.  Your political tribe is ruthless in consolidating power evidenced by the bribes and arm-twisting needed to enact the widely unpopular health-care bill to the delight of the 47% and the anger of the 53% who are going to have to pay for this debacle.

Those who have no skin in the game love this bill – they've got nothing to lose.  There will come a time when the follies of this administration and the rotten fruit that it has produced will bubble to the surface and foul the air just as methane does when it bubbles up from the swamp.  Barack Obama, the candidate, promised to eliminate the pork and yet there's so much pork in '09 that it takes 37,450 lines to list it all. 4

It appears that the progressives, for all their rhetoric about improving the lives of Americans, have contributed to the continuance of a class of dependent people.  It's mysterious how you folks could end a successful educational program that granted poor D.C. kids and their parents an alternative choice rather than bondage to the dysfunctional Washington school system.

I'll bet that by this time next year, if the trough-feeding elected officials aren't thrown out, the 47% will increase in number.  Brian DeVane, in a letter in today's Wall Street Journal pointed out that "entitlement and dependency are learned behaviors."  You are a contributing factor to that dependency.  Shame on you!

Race - "A Nation of Cowards"

May 30, 2010
SENT TO: Obama, Pelosi, Bishop, Reid, Schumer, Gillibrand

Following the inauguration of President Barack Obama, Attorney General, Eric Holder referred to the United States as a nation of cowards in discussing the issue of race.  In response to that condemnation, the following is presented for consideration and discussion.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE OUR-RACE VALUE SYSTEM

The “Our-Race Value System” is adapted from one written by a proponent of racial focus in 1981.

The original author withstood the ravage of being denied his earned ascension to the number one position in a big-city school system. His dedication to the pursuit of excellence, despite systematic denials, has inspired a race-specific group. They have called upon the wisdom of all past generations of suffering members of their race for guidance in fashioning an instrument of racial self-determination, their Racial Value System.

Beginning in 1982, an annual Racial Value System - Educational Scholarship in the name of the original author was instituted. The first recipient of the Award, which is given annually to the man or woman who best exemplifies their Racial Value System, was given to a member of that racial group.

THE OUR-RACE VALUE SYSTEM

These Racial Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever members of our race are gathered. They consist of the following concepts:

1. Commitment to God. "The God of our weary years" will give us the strength to give up prayerful passivism and become Racial Christian Activists, soldiers for our racial freedom and the dignity of all humankind.

2. Commitment to our racial Community. The highest level of achievement for any person of our race must be a contribution of strength and continuity of our racial Community.

3. Commitment to the Family of our race. My racial family circle must generate strength, stability and love, despite the uncertainty of externals, because these characteristics are required if the developing person is to withstand warping by our racist competitive society. Those of our race who are blessed with membership in a strong family unit must reach out and expand that blessing to the less fortunate.

4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education. We must forswear anti-intellectualism. Continued survival demands that each person of our race be developed to the utmost of his/her mental potential despite the inadequacies of the formal education process. “Real education” fosters understanding of ourselves as well as every aspect of our environment. Also, it develops within us the ability to fashion concepts and tools for better utilization of our resources, and more effective solutions to our problems. Since the majority of those of our race have been denied such learning, our race’s Education must include elements that produce high school graduates with marketable skills, a trade or qualifications for apprenticeships, or proper preparation for college. Basic education for all of those of our race should include Mathematics, Science, Logic, General Semantics, Participative Politics, Economics and Finance, and the Care and Nurture of our race’s minds.

5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence. To the extent that we individually reach for, even strain for excellence, we increase, geometrically, the value and resourcefulness of our race’s Community. We must recognize the relativity of one’s best; this year’s best can be bettered next year. Such is the language of growth and development. We must seek to excel in every endeavor.

6. Adherence to Our-Race Work Ethic. "It is becoming harder to find qualified people to work in our towns." Whether this is true or not, it represents one of the many reasons given by businesses and industries for deserting our areas. We must realize that a location with good facilities, adequate transportation and a reputation for producing skilled workers will attract industry. We are in competition with other cities, states and nations for jobs. High productivity must be a goal of our race’s workforce.
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect. To accomplish anything worthwhile requires self-discipline. We must be a community of self-disciplined persons if we are to actualize and utilize our own human resources, instead of perpetually submitting to exploitation by others. Self-discipline, coupled with a respect for self, will enable each of us to be an instrument of our race’s Progress and a model for our race’s Youth.

8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness." Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must be able to identify the "talented tenth" of those subjugated; especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor's control.

Those so identified are separated from the rest of the people by:
●  Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another.
●  Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons.
●  Seducing them into a socioeconomic class system which, while training them to earn more dollars, hypnotizes them into believing they are better than others and teaches them to think in terms of "we" and "they" instead of "us."
●  So, while it is permissible to chase "middleclassness" with all our might, we must avoid the third separation method - the psychological entrapment of racial "middleclassness." If we avoid this snare, we will also diminish our "voluntary" contributions to methods A and B. And more importantly, our race’s people no longer will be deprived of their birthright: the leadership, resourcefulness and example of their own talented persons.

9. Pledge to Make the Fruits of All Developing and Acquired Skills Available to our race’s Community.

10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting our race’s Institutions.

11. Pledge Allegiance to all of our race’s Leadership Who Espouse and Embrace the Our-Race Value System.

12. Personal Commitment to Embracement of the Our-Race Value System. To measure the worth and validity of all activity in terms of positive contributions to the general welfare of our race’s Community and the Advancement of our race’s People towards freedom.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.  What do you think about this?  Your comments are appreciated.

Citizens need to feel that the US Government is fulfilling its purpose to protect them.

2.  Could you please tell me why the case against Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson – the two New Black Panther Party members accused of intimidating voters in Philadelphia on November 4, 2008 – was dropped by Acting Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Loretta King and Attorney General Eric Holder?

Israel

March 26, 2010
TO: Obama, Pelosi, Bishop, Rein, Schumer, Gillibrand, Clinton

Israel

The administration’s stand on Israel encourages the anti-Semitic rants of Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and other fundamental Islamic organizations and countries.  The administration’s stand on Israel reminds me of the hate speech of the Ku Klux Klan and the Nation of Islam.  Most of us Americans have come a long way from the blind prejudices of the past.  We're confused about many of the actions of this administration.  Eric Holder's and Loretta King's protection of Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson – with the apparent support of Barack Obama.  Steny Hoyer's statement that Americans were asked to participate in the health care debacle  No one asked us – it was jammed down our collective throats.  The blind eye to Chris Dodd's and Charlie Rangle's ethics problems.  The pressure to return Manuel Zelaya to office in Honduras.  The treatment of the Dalai Lama and Benjamin Netanyahu.

I have a hard time understanding how our leaders have taken us down a divisive path from working toward religious and racial harmony to the polarities of distrust.  Rev. Wright says, referring to the public distancing between himself and Obama, “Them Jews aren’t going to let him talk to me…”  Is that the root of the turn against Israel?  Is Obama being kept apart from Wright by Rahm Emanuel or other Jews?  Is Obama rebelling against his handlers?  Is this his way of asserting his authority at the expense of our countries' national interests?

We, the people, are angered about the nuclear aspirations of Iran and its stated intentions to destroy Israel.  A question that I asked of Chuck Schumer this summer in Riverhead, NY about US support of Israel was met with a flippant response about him being a Jew but that didn’t give me a clear idea of his support for Israel.  I suspect that there may be many confident and comfortable Jews in our government who presume that there is support for Israel.  Hillary Clinton’s popularity in Kiryas Joel and with other Jewish groups is interesting.  Some day those folks will become aware that they too have been lulled into a state of complacency with the false promises of the Obama campaign.  The political aspirations of Clinton will, I suspect, be revealed as those of an opportunist.  Aipac may already have come to that realization.

As a Christian, I strongly support Israel and expect my government to do the same.  During my 69 years I’ve had many opportunities to observe the world’s treatment of Israel and it hasn’t been encouraging.  I remember when Israel was pressured and gave up developed territory to the Palestinians – the prosperous greenhouse businesses left behind were stripped of their copper and other salvageable materials by the Palestinians and reduced to rubble.

Israel’s need for self-preservation is completely understandable. Bret Stephens’ article, “The Settlements Aren’t the Problem” in the March 15, 2010 edition of the Wall Street Journal says that, “The Israeli-Palestinian conflict isn’t territorial. It’s existential. Israelis are now broadly prepared to live with a Palestinian state along their borders. Palestinians are not yet willing to live with a Jewish state along theirs.”  (See enclosed folder.)

Why can’t your political tribe recognize that the best defense against killers who want to destroy you is strength, courage and preparedness?  I have the feeling that if you folks were in office on December 7, 1941 you would have initiated peace talks.

Remember what God said about His people: “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:3

Don't be like Farrakhan or Wright or Jackson and pass judgment on Israel based on your personal feelings or observations – that's God's job.  Remember, God is very much alive – it's Nietzsche who's dead.

Israel

I cannot understand our government’s positions on the democracies of Honduras or Israel.  The administration’s condemnation of Israel for building housing in its own country is out of line.  It is none of our business.

We are at war with Islamist extremists – not the democracy of Israel.  Israel didn’t attack us and kill our citizens – Islamists did.  In my letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu, I quoted two passages from the Bible (Genesis 12:3 and 27:29) that stated that God will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse her.  I believe that our nation has been prosperous because we’ve followed God’s principles.  I believe that one of our national obligations is to continue to bless Israel.  To do the contrary will lead us to destruction.

I’ve included a copy of the letter that I wrote to Mr. Netanyahu and I urge you to encourage Israel.

Health Care

Do not be misled by reports that tout support for certain provisions of the Senate health care bill.  There are parts that the American public like.  The entire package, however, is as the scourge of leprosy.  If fully enacted, it will lead to the crippling, withering away and decay of the health system and social structure that we have today.  In its place will be a costly and incomprehensible set of regulations that will strangle the productivity of our nation.
Nancy Pelosi’s encouragement to vote for an unseen bill with the joyful expectation of unwrapping it after passing it just doesn’t make sense.  Only a fool would buy a product without fully understanding its promises – its benefits and drawbacks.
The American people want you to start over.  The American people want the transparency and bipartisanship that Candidate Obama promised and for which he was elected.  The American people want the “…integrity, civility and fiscal discipline…” and the use of “…commonsense principles to address the aspirations and fulfill the hopes and dreams of all Americans” promised to the American people by the Nancy Pelosi in A New Direction for America.
Your political tribe was successful at the last election because you promised change and cleaning of the Washington swamp.  Instead, we’ve seen a rejection of bipartisanship and the dominance of the Chicago style of bribery and muscle.
You have it in your power to amend the mess that you’ve created.  If you carry on as you have to this point, history will record you as a blind follower of a faction that tried to move the country from freedom and prosperity to slavery and poverty – from capitalism to communism.  You will regret following the present destructive course.
Like Ebenezer Scrooge, you still have a choice to influence the future for good:  “Men’s courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead. But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change. Say it is thus with what you show me.”  Charles Dickens, “A Christmas Carol”

To: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- Israel

March 16, 2010

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
3 Kaplan St.
Hakirya, Jerusalem 91950
Israel

Dear Mr. Netanyahu,

We United States citizens are puzzled by the actions of our present government – a government that has veered so far to the left that we can hardly recognize it.
Our President and Congressional leaders have employed gangster tactics to bribe lawmakers to vote for laws that are contrary to our expectations.  They have rejected our basic principles.
I was alarmed by the way that the United States treated the democracy of Honduras when it legally ousted its leftist President Jose Zelaya for attempting to subvert its constitution.  I wrote to President Obama in August and Congressman Bishop in October asking for justification for such an unprecedented action.  Neither responded – our elected officials, apparently, don’t feel answerable to the citizens.
The recent visit by Vice President Joe Biden and the announcement of the building project in East Jerusalem led to condemnation of Israel by Biden, Secretary of State Clinton and the Obama administration.  That condemnation does not reflect the opinion of the U.S. public.  We are as confused about the position of our leaders on this issue as we are by their actions on the Honduran issue.  Regrettably, their true motives will remain secret and the truth will remain hidden.  This is from an administration that promised “transparency” during the presidential campaign.
While I feel uncomfortable expressing criticism of my government to the leader of another government, I am grateful that the First Amendment of our Constitution guarantees me the right to worship and speak freely.  Our first President, George Washington said, “If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”  I will exercise those and other rights until the “slaughter.”
As a Christian, I read the Bible and pray to God daily and attend church weekly. I have an understanding of the way that the world works – an understanding of which many of our elected officials are ignorant.  Israel and the United States are at war with Islamist extremists who would destroy us.  For some reason, many in our government think that compromise will lead to peace.  They demonstrate a belief that, through negotiations, we can convince our enemies that we can co-exist in tranquility.  History, however, has shown us that our enemies cannot be appeased and that our security lies in our strength and moral convictions.

The Creator of the Universe has made His intentions about Israel clear.  He said, “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” Genesis 12:3. And “Cursed be everyone who curses you, And blessed be those who bless you!”  Genesis 27:29.  We seek God’s blessings and condemn those of our leaders who, in their ignorance, would weaken or harm Israel.
There is a popular movement across our country that rejects the leftist elected and appointed officials who quote Mao and lead us toward socialism.  We have faith that God’s purposes will not be subverted and that Israel will \be victorious.
Stand your ground, Mr. Prime Minister.  I believe that the Creator of the Universe has placed you in your position at this time for His purposes.  Israel is in our prayers.

Your Legacy

I remember the duck and cover drills in school in the fifties.  The threat of the Soviet Communists and their nuclear bombs was with us kids all of the time.  We understood that our arsenal would obliterate much of their world about the same time that ours went up in a bright cloud.

Life Magazine printed photographs of the Soviet Union after its collapse.  It showed the dismal existence of the people.  The workers lived in cramped apartments under oppressive rules.  Lines of people snaked out the doors of businesses selling scarce food or clothing.  The failings of socialism, compared to the prosperity of capitalism, was unmistakable.

And now your tribe's progressive policies threaten to take us into a similar "Twilight Zone" as you "fundamentally change America."  If successful, your time of government will yield a legacy of burdensome taxes, unimaginable shortages of goods and services and tyrannical regulations.

The photo of the fallen Statue of Liberty from one of the "Planet of the Apes" films illustrates the fruit of your progressive policies.  It illustrates the legacy that you and your communist friends will leave.  It represents the enslavement and death of the people under Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and the European and South American reds.

It may be that Pelosi and Bishop, Reid and Killibrand and Schumer harbored idealistic goals of peace, equality and justice.  If so, the group has been eclipsed by Obama's associates – Emanuel, Axelrod, Stern, Jones, Dunn, Bloom, Ayers and the rest of the Fifth Column roaches that scurry in the darkness and flee when the lights are turned on.

We've seen this administration's raw use of political power – bribes, thugs, silencing of opposition and control of the media.  The next step is the erosion of the Constitution and the violation of the rights contained therein.  The legacy of this administration, unless things change radically, will be that of enslavement of a once-proud and independent people and hunger, sickness and despair.

"The Constitution is not neutral.  It was designed to take the government off the backs of people."

Jim Bunning's Stand

Kentucky Senator, Jim Bunning, stood for adhering to the Senate's "Pay-As-You-Go" requirement for identifying how bills will be funded.  The uproar in the Senate cast Bunning as an obstructionist simply because he insisted that senators follow the rules.  You can read about the issue at:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704548604575097632988425818.html?KEYWORDS=jim+bunning%27s&mg=com-wsj

The following was emailed to all Republican senators:

RE:  Jim Bunning's Stand for Fiscal Responsibility

Dear Senator;

Today's "Wall Street Journal" reports that, of all the Republican senators, only Bob Corker of Tennessee and Jim DeMint of South Carolina backed Jim Bunning's stand requiring adherence to the "pay-as-you-go" executive order.

I voted for Barack Obama because I wanted to see a change in the way that government operates.  I am greatly disappointed by that decision.  While I thought that things could get better in Washington, I see now that they've become dismally worse.

Jim Bunning took a principled stand on a rational position – identify the ways that government will pay for the bills that it passes.  While we all want to see families protected by extending jobless payments, we also want to know how our elected officials will cover those expenses.  In essence, we taxpayers want our elected officials to work hard to move our country away from the unsustainable debit and debt that is ruining our economy and our grandchildren's future.

The shame is that most of our Republican senators don't think that that is important.  The shame is that most Republican senators don't fully understand the American public's revulsion to the sleaziness of Washington politics.

We've had enough of the Democrats and Harry Reid's bribes and pressures.  Republicans, at last week's health care summit, displayed a courageous front against the tyranny of the Obama administration.  The party lost points when it backed away from Jim Bunning's stand.

I'm one man in a far-off state who is taking the time to rebuke my party's senators.  This issue will come up at election time – hopefully there's something that you can do to redeem yourself for this careless disregard for the Senate's rules.

Letters sent to Bishop, Gillibrand, Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer

March 1, 2010

Health Care Summit

Last Thursday's "bipartisan" meeting called by the president was quite a spectacle.  The president, a gifted orator before a teleprompter, seemed to stumble without one.  He seemed to talk and talk and talk.  He let the audience know that he considered his long-winded rhetoric acceptable simply because he is the president.

Although I voted for Obama, I was chagrined when the president reminded John McCain that he had lost the election – as if that invalidated McCain's statements.  The display was important for the American people to witness because it revealed a petulant man who wielded his power without respect for the people who we elected.

Reconciliation
Although Harry Reid appeared reluctant to admit that the procedure was on the table, it was apparent that it was on the minds of those present.

The condescending tone of the president, when he said that the American public was not all that interested in Senate procedures, was an insult to the voters.  He came across as a pompous professor – not to be considered with, "uppity," as another professor, Charles Ogletree, suggested.  The man, like some of the professors that I've had, tends to speak down to his audience and assumes that he isn't explaining things well enough for the rest of us to understand.  That's the insult!

Then there's poor old Nancy Pelosi with her "itsy, bitsy spider" routine.  She may be a power to her colleagues but to the nation's adults, she seems like a doddering old grandmother entertaining a toddler.

The problem with your political tribe is that you all seem to think that the exorbitantly expensive, bureaucratically heavy and regulatory burdensome health care bill is something that the American public breathlessly awaits.  The truth is, we're terrified of the corrupt process and the cumbersome results.

Future Emphasis

Obama has presented himself as a one-term president and the nation concurs.  Elections on the horizon for the offices of Bishop, Gillibrand and Schumer will be spirited, especially if the "reconciliation," "nuclear option" or "up and down" tactics are pursued.  Your emphasis should be on reducing the deficit and debt and working for incremental health care reform and change.

Daniel H. Burnham, Chicago architect, said, "Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood...Make big plans, aim high in hope and work."  Don't be misled by Burnham's words.  These are troubled times and the American people expect restraint and wisdom from our elected officials.

Extremists

Monday's Wall Street Journal (February 22, 2010) reported on threats made against IRS employees.  The annual figure of about 900 has risen to 1,000 in 2009.

There have been many insane attacks against our society during my lifetime.  The church bombings during the civil rights era, the Weather Underground during the late '60's to mid '70's and Islamic terrorist attacks in the '90's and first decade of the 21st century were organized provocations against our nation.

I recommend that you view the "Free History Project" 2003 documentary about the Weather Underground[1] – perhaps this is what Nancy Pelosi was referring to in her rant against the Tea Party.  Brian Flanagan, an adult businessman in 2003 and a former Weather Underground member, said in the documentary, "If you think that you have the moral high ground, that's a very dangerous position and you can do some very dreadful things."

Bill Ayres, is one of the founders of "one of the most radical political organizations in U.S. history," according to his website [2].    The site contains a cartoon character (Bill Ayres) wearing a shirt with a large star.  The character states, "Even though I worked hard to end the war, I feel to this day that I didn't do enough because the war dragged on for years…" The cartoon, allegedly by Ryan Alexander-Tanner, is presented without comment by Ayres.

The first page of his website [3] contains some interesting images: 1. two red star stickers similar to the Communist symbol [4]; 2. a sticker of the Southern Poverty Law Center; 3. a photograph of the racist and sadist, Che Guevara and another one who looks like Fidel Castro; and, 4. mug shots of Ayres by the Chicago Police Department dated August 27, 1968.  There are 4 snapshots of children, two women and a young man and a central sticker, "ABU-ZAYD" which supposedly means, "Father of Zayd," – Ayres' son, Zayd Dohrn is also the son of Bernadine Dohrn, a former member of the weather underground [5].
Joseph Stack joins the collection of extremists such as George Metesky, Timothy McVeigh and Theodore Kaczynski in their violence against our society, elected officials and government workers.  They are/were the steam in a sealed container that eventually explodes.  They represent, not only the genuinely disaffected insurgents such as Flanagan, Ayres and Dohern, but also the law-abiding, tax paying, respecters of the Constitution who gather on the mall to peacefully present their grievances to government.

TO: Bishop, Durbin, Gillibrand, Holder, Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer

I don't get it.  I write to you every week and it's like I'm writing to a dead person.  My son died in 2005 and one company sends him a statement a month. I've written and called to let them know that he's no longer available to answer his mail.  That company is as responsive as my government.

Ok, so I've received some canned messages that office flunkies seem to think may fit as responses to something that I've written.  Both you and they are getting paid good salaries on the government dole to represent the citizens of these United States.  From my point of view, you're abject failures.

After the Obamacare health debacle tanked, the president wants to meet with the Republicans to – I think – reach a bipartisan agreement on health care.  One problem is that nobody trusts the president or Pelosi or Reid.  Obama promised transparency and Pelosi laughed that off as campaign rhetoric.  Reid bought (bribed) support and the country rose up in indignation.

The other problem is that Obama's gesture is predicated upon working with the Republicans starting with the content of the bills that the country has already risen against.  Now, there are some that suggest that Obama's strategy is to get the Republicans so boxed in that they will have to reject the president's ploy – that way he can blame the failure for not passing a bill on them.  The country knows, by this time, that it was the Democrats who could not muster enough votes in support of the bill – they have had all the power they needed to pass it.

So what are you all going to do?  We elected Obama to help fix the problems with health coverage and his handlers have bungled the job -- we don't want the unmanageable cost, the mortgaging of our grandchildren's future or the onerous intrusions into our lives. Obama, Reid and Pelosi let us down!

The only right and honest thing to do is to start over.  Put ALL the proposals on the table.  We don't want politics, we want men and women of honor and ability to do the jobs that they were elected to do.  And, put it all on C-span.

1. Honduras

The excerpt below from the Wall Street Journal bothers me as a citizen of a free, democratic country. My President and the Congress continue to harass the democratic ally of Honduras.

"It appears that State's pettiness still flows from the refusal of interim president Roberto Micheletti and his cabinet, from June to December, to cave to the U.S. demand that they reinstate Mr. Zelaya. In earlier acts of pique, State stripped the U.S. visas of Mr. Micheletti, his advisers and cabinet officials and even the entire Honduran Supreme Court. Last week it yanked more visas from members of the interim government.
Insofar as Mr. Micheletti is leaving office January 27, the only explanations for this pistol-whipping would appear to be: Don't mess with Uncle Sam's regional agenda, which since April's Summit of the Americas includes overtures to Hugo Chávez, Raúl Castro and Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega.
The State Department has never explained its harsh treatment of Honduras, a democratic ally. And this latest bullying won't help U.S. credibility with other Latin leaders who might help us, as opposed to assisting the chavistas."
Wall Street Journal January 25, 2010

I've sent letters about this issue (see below) to the administration and my congressional members. No one has bothered to respond.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the removal of President Jose Zelaya by order of the Honduran Supreme Court has incurred the wrath of your administration. I find this strange that a United States administration would interfere with another democracy. Your administration's policy contradicts the "official" position as found on the website: http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/1922.htm.
The site states:
"U.S. Policy Toward Honduras
U.S. policy toward Honduras is aimed at consolidating democracy, protecting human rights, and promoting the rule of law."
It is also disconcerting that the site continues to recognize Jose Zelaya as President:
"Principal Government Officials
President--Jose Manuel "Mel" ZELAYA Rosales"
Could you please tell me why your administration has taken this position?
August 31, 2009

I'd like to know your opinion about the democracy of Honduras and our government's condemnation of the lawful removal of former president Manuel Zelaya.
South Carolina Senator James DeMint visited Honduras and reported his views in the Wall Street Journal on October 10, 2009. I've included a copy of his article along with the Law Library of Congress August, 2009 report about Honduras.
Try as I might, I cannot find the State Department's legal opinion about the situation in Honduras as written by the State Department's legal advisor, Harold Koh. Could you please obtain a copy for me?
October 15, 2009

The voters are suspicious of our elected representatives. You seem to favor the memories of Mao and Che Guevara and are timid in dealing with dictators such as Amadinijab, Castro, Chavez and Ortega. It seems as if the tough America that defended democracy around the world has morphed into a scared sewer rat.

Why is your political tribe afraid to defend your out of touch policies?

2. Health Care

The following excerpts are from letters that I sent to my elected officials – mine as well as the ones who wrote HR 3200 – and The White House:

… according to the bill approved by the House of Representatives on July 14, 2009, it looks like whatever funds were asked for, an additional $38,800,000,000 will be required between 2010 and 2019 for Community Health Centers?
(Subtitle H -Miscellaneous, Division c - Public Health and Workforce Development, Title I - Community Health Centers, Sec. 2101, Increased Funding).
How can you justify appropriating $38 trillion over the next nine years? How will the funds for this be raised?
August 12, 2009

After reading Bill H. R. 3200, of the 111th CONGRESS 1st Session, I must admit that I feel as overwhelmed as Rep. John Conyers does. Rep. Conyers, however, has the advantage of having 2 lawyers to assist him.
I'm appealing to you because you're an expert on this bill and I need your help. After looking at most of the costs identified in the bill I came to the conclusion that over a 10 year period it will cost us almost $304 trillion. That's over $30 trillion per year.
Please look at the attached summary and tell me where I went wrong. Please also tell me how the Congress expects to raise revenues for the health care program as well as the many other programs essential to the security and well-being of the United States?
August 17, 2009

I've included a copy of the Health Care Bill summary. No one bothered to answer my question about its accuracy which leads me to suspect that the figures are accurate and cannot be refuted or defended.

NOTE:  If you would like a 1 page pdf. copy of the Health Care Bill summary, request it at:: ryanslament@gmail.com

3. Credibility

It seems to me that your political tribe is hell-bent on bankrupting our country. Blaming Bush doesn't cut it – that's why I voted for Obama. The lies from The White House, insane spending and political deals are frustrating and all credibility is lost.

I hope that you people will get the picture that your ivory-tower approaches are not working. The blundering, cover-ups and secrecy need to stop.

TO: Bishop, Durbin, Gillibrand, Holder, Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer

There were 224 graduates in my 1958 New York City vocational high school class. We were a mixture of nationalities, races and creeds in the middle of the most exciting city in the world. Eric Holder was around 7 years old when I graduated. Like me, he later commuted to a Manhattan high school.

Neither of us live in the city any longer but we sure do have different allegiances to it. The Obama and Holder plan to try the 9/11 terrorists in a civil court in the city makes no sense. The unprecedented move would cost around a billion dollars and endanger the lives and occupations of millions of ordinary citizens. The fact that Obama and Holder would consider such a fiasco is unfathomable. Why would they be so insensitive in bringing continued grief to those affected by the World Trade Center attacks?

The assertion that a civil trial in New York City would show the world that we are a civilized nation ruled by laws is nonsense. Ron Bloom, Obama's Manufacturing Czar said, “We kind of agree with Mao that power comes largely from the barrel of a gun”. The Maos of the world agree with Bloom – they respect power, not weakness. They don't care about justice and the only way for us to remain free and prosperous is through power and the willingness to use it.

While your political tribe uses raw power to push regulations, spending and higher taxes against American citizens, the world looks at you and laughs. Picture Nancy Pelosi parachuting into wherever she needs to get to pass a health care bill. The world's laughing at her.

Citizens are baffled by the contents of the President's State of the Union address. Fact checkers from ABC News, NPR, factcheck.org, Asbury Park Press, examiner.com, Yahoo News, the Washington Post and cato-at-liberty.org have found that his comments on the following were either false or half-truths:
stimulus and employment, cutting taxes, government spending freeze, job creation, stimulus success, White House visitors online accessibility, health care provisions, lobbyist involvement, transparency in government, number of terrorist deaths, the Supreme Court decision on campaign financing, oil imports, his mortgage aid plan, U.S. invention of the automobile and completion of the transcontinental railroad during the civil war.

What's going on? What are you people doing? We deserve better. Don't assume that we're stupid! Even though the majority of us didn't graduate from Harvard or Columbia, we can discern falsehood from truth.

I had limited interest in politics in the fifties – I was going to school and working after school. I chased girls, took advantage of the cultural offerings of New York City and went to college in Oswego, NY. Admittedly, I knew nothing of H. L. Mencken in those days – he died in 1956 – but his words mirror the frustration of today's citizens with your political tribe. H. L. Mencken said:

"The legislature, like the executive, has ceased to be even the creature of the people: it is the creature of pressure groups, and most of them, it must be manifest, are of dubious wisdom and even more dubious honesty. Laws are no longer made by a rational process of public discussion; they are made by a process of blackmail and intimidation, and they are executed in the same manner. The typical lawmaker of today is a man wholly devoid of principle."

January 25, 2010

I can't understand why our government repeatedly offends middle-class. The "guns and religion" remark still reverberates. President Obama blasted Scott Brown's truck about 7 times on January 17, 2010 in support of Martha Coakley's senatorial campaign. He worked the house like a first-rate standup comedian offending the folks who own and drive pickup trucks

My 11 year old Ford F250 truck was made in the USA by USA labor. It was paid for in USA dollars and financed by a USA bank. USA investors made a profit from the deal. It's been used to help people move, carry leaves to the recycling center, haul mulch, clear debris from around our church, cart building materials and deliver thousands of Bibles.

The enclosed photograph was taken two years ago at Mount Zion National Park – one of many fantastic places in this great country. The truck took us to 49 states.

The President's been to Copenhagen to lobby for the Chicago Olympics and the Global Warming debacle. He's campaigned for Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Hopefully, President Obama will campaign in New York's First Congressional District for Tim Bishop. Has it occurred to anyone that a truck driver might have been more successful? Your political tribe may be able to stimulate the far-left Air America liberals but the rest of the electorate is left cold.

Your tribe lacks the common sense of truck drivers – people who work for a living as opposed to the politicians who pontificate and dream up new ways to spend, regulate and tax. My annual physical is no longer paid for by Medicare. Deductions for sales taxes have ended beginning in 2010. We don't appreciate the trend.

It's hard to believe that, at age 69, I've become so involved in politics. Thomas Paine seems to speak to us today when he lists the abuses of England's king against the colonists. Your tribe seeks to bring us into the orbit of Europe and socialist nations but the words of Paine are as true today as when he said,,
"This new world hath been the asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious liberty from every Part of Europe. Hither have they fled, not from the tender embraces of the mother, but from the cruelty of the monster ... the same tyranny which drove the first emigrants from home pursues their descendants still."

Please rethink your goals. The country is vehemently opposed to the socialist tack which the Democrats favor. We've seen how it works in Venezuela and France and we don't want it here. Make amends with the National Association of Manufacturers. Give GM back to the investors. Be honest!

"The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is in extending our commercial relations to have as little political connection as possible... Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rivalships, interest, humor, or caprice?... It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world." George Washington, September 19, 1796.

January 18, 2010

This past summer we visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center in Atlanta Georgia and then drove the historic route from Montgomery to Selma. It was humbling to drive on that road where so many courageous men, women and children braved the opposition of hatred and bigotry [photos 1 and 2].

We have come so far as a nation and I am proud of our progress. The evidence of that progress is the overwhelming support for the election of our first black president. There were strange alliances [photo 3] as Americans moved toward a more racially harmonious society. Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that my vote for Barack Obama was the wrong choice – the change that I hoped for is disappointing and quite different.

Nancy Pelosi, in her "New Direction for America", in 2006, promised tough and smart national security policies for America's freedom and protection [p. 6]. The Black Panthers who intimidated voters in Philadelphia [photo 4], the extremist positions [photo 5] and the White House web site that urged citizens to report others whose free-speech expressions could be considered "fishy" indicates that her policies failed.

The killings at Fort Hood by terrorist, Malik Hasan, and the attacks on Kenneth Gladney by SEIU members in St. Louis [photo 6] and Weekly Standard reporter John McCormack by White House appointee Michael P. Meehan in Washington [photo 7] are frightening. The security that Pelosi promised sounds wonderful – but I don't feel safer.

The reality is that the failure of Attorney General Eric Holder to prosecute Kenneth Gladney's attackers as well as Obama's and Holder's interference in the Black Panther's voter intimidation case makes the tragedy of the assignation of Martin Luther King, Jr. even sadder. The administration's actions showing favoritism for the Black Panther terrorists will only lead to escalating racial tensions – tensions that could tear us apart and reverse the sacrifices of Dr. King and other black and white patriots.

Holder called us a nation of "cowards" in regard to his perception of Americans and the ways that we interact with each other across racial lines. He said, "…we have to be able to accept criticism where that is justified." I hope that he and the rest of the administration and congress will accept this criticism with the goal of protecting the prosperity and security of our citizens and the nation.

"As long as our government is administered for the good of the people, and is regulated by their will; as long as it secures to us the rights of persons and of property, liberty of conscience and of the press, it will be worth defending." -Andrew Jackson

TO: Obama, Pelosi, Reid. Schumer, Killibrand, Bishop, Durbin, Romer

Christina Romer, Council of Economic Advisors Chair, seems to be as sweet a lady as the grandmothers that I've met at the Tea Party rallies in Washington. She's bright and articulate and her observations in "Do Tax Cuts Starve the Beast" seem to be well researched. Steven J. Davis, in his comments about her paper, points out the benefits of VAT and Cap and Trade as being less visible to taxpayers than the income and other taxes and "would lead to a large expansion of the size of government" at marginal cost – preferable to your political tribe but anathema to the rest of us.

Christina's January 10, 2010 interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC on possible job growth by spring seems naively optimistic – this administration's mishaps are destroying the confidence of the people.

Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, said that the system worked after a jihadist terrorist was thwarted by airplane passengers on December 25, 2009. It took days for President Obama to address the issue and then he only acknowledged that there was a war on Al Qaeda (leaving out the Taliban and other enemies of America). Michael Leiter, National Counterterrorism Center director, skied instead of reporting for duty.

The health care debacle has resulted in Harry Reid's bribes being referred to as part of the "art of compromise". He added, "if they [senators] don't have something in it important to them, then it doesn't speak well of them – that's what this legislation is all about."

Nancy Pelosi displayed the acting ability of Lucille Ball to almost tearfully equate the peaceful September 12 demonstration by a loose confederation of citizens at a Tea Party event in Washington with the violence and turmoil in San Francisco in the '70s. This past week she displayed the quick wit of Gracie Burns when asked about televising health the care debate. When reminded about the number of promises that presidential candidate Obama made to televise the proceedings on C-span, she replied, “There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail.” He also promised not to raise taxes on the middle class and now we union members are worried about taxes on our health insurance policies.

We citizens are making sacrifices while our political elite party at the White House. Pete Souza's photographs of the ”Fiesta Latina" and the "Stevie Wonder" White House Performances show the divide between your political tribe and the rest of us. While you party, we citizens struggle to feed the hungry.

Christina Romer's misplaced optimism on ABC lacks the common sense of most Americans. Business people do not have confidence in the future to commit to hiring more people. The expiration of tax deductions from federal tax returns, the rapidly expanding deficit and national debt, the unbounded expansion of government, uncertain future taxes and regulations as well as Congress and White House dirty politics cast suspicion on your intentions.

David McCullough, in his book, Truman, provides a code of conduct that all of you should strive to meet:

"Ambitious by nature, he was never torn by ambition, never tried to appear as something he was not. He stood for common sense, common decency. He spoke the common tongue. As much as any president since Lincoln, he brought to the highest office the language and values of the common American people. He held to the old guidelines: work hard, do your best, speak the truth, assume no airs, trust in God, have no fear."

Monday (1) - January 4, 2010

Dear Politican,

The global warming is piled up outside my home and I'm relishing the warmth inside.
When I walked our dog Zach, this morning, it was around 20o and the driving wind created more snow drifts. Zach loves to stick his nose in the white fluff and sniff for whatever dogs sniff for. I've shoveled more snow this year than I have in quite a while and I live in a gated senior community where contractors shovel out our homes. The questions asked as we walk around the neighborhood are generally related to Al Gore and his far-fetched "Global Warming" dog and pony show.

Americans are asking other questions about the ideas being bandied about by our elected officials and their appointees. We want to know why this divisive health care issue has brought out the worst in our elected officials. We want to know why, if the legislation is so good, senators have to be bribed to vote for it. We wonder who's watching the till and how our grandchildren are going to pay for all that you've borrowed or committed to be spent.

We have the impression that the political tribe is so sequestered from the American public that it has no concepts about citizens' daily challenges and doubts about the future. You folks get good salaries and perks that are far removed from the average American. You get the red carpet treatment when you travel – without regard for your carbon footprints – while the rest of us struggle. If the President wants to swim, the citizens in Hawaii are denied the use of their public beach.

When we peacefully assemble and petition the government, we're called "astroturf" and "unruly mobs". When we ask questions, we're ignored or sent generic answers from a database of responses.

At the beginning of this new year, I encourage you to remember your roots and dreams and aspirations and ask yourself if the power that you've acquired has led to a distance from those who elected you and a feeling of invincibility typical of our teenagers. I encourage you to do what Hillary did – take a listening tour to hear what the people think.

However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.

GEORGE WASHINGTON, Farewell Address, Sep. 17, 1796
