Kentucky Senator, Jim Bunning, stood for adhering to the Senate's "Pay-As-You-Go" requirement for identifying how bills will be funded. The uproar in the Senate cast Bunning as an obstructionist simply because he insisted that senators follow the rules. You can read about the issue at:

The following was emailed to all Republican senators:
RE: Jim Bunning's Stand for Fiscal Responsibility
Dear Senator;
Today's "Wall Street Journal" reports that, of all the Republican senators, only Bob Corker of Tennessee and Jim DeMint of South Carolina backed Jim Bunning's stand requiring adherence to the "pay-as-you-go" executive order.
I voted for Barack Obama because I wanted to see a change in the way that government operates. I am greatly disappointed by that decision. While I thought that things could get better in Washington, I see now that they've become dismally worse.
Jim Bunning took a principled stand on a rational position – identify the ways that government will pay for the bills that it passes. While we all want to see families protected by extending jobless payments, we also want to know how our elected officials will cover those expenses. In essence, we taxpayers want our elected officials to work hard to move our country away from the unsustainable debit and debt that is ruining our economy and our grandchildren's future.
The shame is that most of our Republican senators don't think that that is important. The shame is that most Republican senators don't fully understand the American public's revulsion to the sleaziness of Washington politics.
We've had enough of the Democrats and Harry Reid's bribes and pressures. Republicans, at last week's health care summit, displayed a courageous front against the tyranny of the Obama administration. The party lost points when it backed away from Jim Bunning's stand.
I'm one man in a far-off state who is taking the time to rebuke my party's senators. This issue will come up at election time – hopefully there's something that you can do to redeem yourself for this careless disregard for the Senate's rules.
